GEAPS Announces Fall Learning Series

GEAPS announces today the Fall Learning Series, a three-part webinar series that helps grain elevators prepare for harvest. Each session is free and available to anyone as they are broadcast live; replays are available for GEAPS members. The series starts on Monday, Sept. 21. Having your bins fully prepared and operating at full capacity is a key aspect to having a safe and successful harvest season.  Hanig will review the main items to check for with all of your operating storage bins.  This presentation covers:

  • Safety: Lockout/tagout, bin entry and shields
  • Drives: Belts, pulleys, chains, sprockets, bearing and gearboxes
  • Auger process:  Sweep auger location, flight condition and gate positions
  • Operations: Fans, heating, vents and conduits/electoral connections and doors
  • Structure: Foundation, anchor bolts and roof

Having a well-running and serviced drive system is vitally important as you enter the fall harvest season. During this webinar, Hughes is going to review the core areas to be aware of when it comes to gearboxes, motors and overall drive systems. Safety (lockout/tagout and housekeeping) is a critical component to be aware of, as these are very powerful systems and can be very dangerous. Hughes is also going to talk about the importance of comprehensive inspections and having a preventative maintenance schedule. He is also going to describe the approaches he would suggest for documentation of the work and results.
